Stitchy Stitchy

Have you seen the Feb/March 2015 issue of Quilting Arts?

QA Stitch2

Jane Davila has written an informative article on ways to use seed stitch. It’s, in my biased opinion, beautifully illustrated! My Army Wife: Home Fires apron graces both the contents page and the first page of the article. I absolutely love the detail photo showing off my multi-colored and dense stitches. They are a lovely counterpoint to the more spare use of the stitch by Natalya Aikens, Deborah Boschert, and Gerrie Congdon highlighted on the next pages. I also need to say that I am so tickled the four artists chosen to show off this versatile stitch are also my close friends, mentors, and much respected peers. I hope we can share pages and galleries for years to come.

Quilting Arts!

The October/November issue is in stores now, and I have not one, but two pieces in it! QA gave Dinner@8 Artists a nice write up and features seven of the 33 pieces in the show. My Selfie was one of the seven. I’m pleased that they included a detail photo as well as the overall piece since my quilt is so much about the myriad fabrics that make it up. I went to the framing store to pick up some artwork today, and one of the ladies there is also a fiber artist. She had already read this issue of QA and recognized my work. We talked about the piece a bit, and she hadn’t realized that it included a square from every fabric in my stash. I was VERY brief with my statement, so maybe I should have written more. Or maybe all those fabrics will be a secret to uncover while enjoying the patchwork.

The exhibit will debut at the Houston quilt show in October/November. I plan on going with my friend Deborah and am looking forward to not only talking to people about the show, but meeting other quilt artists whose work I admire. I love putting names to faces, so if you’re going to Houston too, let me know.

As an extra added bonus, one of the “Breast Pockets” I made for Melanie Testa’s project is featured in the magazine too (as are pockets by friends Natalya and Vivien)

And if that’s not enough, yet another friend, Lorie, is a featured artist in the same issue! Obviously, this issue is a must-buy, collectors item.

In Stitches

I am proud to announce that I have an article in Volume 4 of “In Stitches” eMagazine!

By the creators of Quilting Arts magazine, this digital magazine has the advantage of including videos and slide shows with the tutorials, plus taking up a lot less space on your coffee table! My article is about making small art with a big impact using collaged fabrics and crocheted and embroidered details. See how a piece evolves from auditioning fabrics to layering the elements and adding three dimensional stitches and other embellishments. Other volumes of In Stitches include articles by fellow Twelve by Twelve artists Deborah Boschert and Terry Grant, and by circle of friends pal Natalya Aikens (Deborah actually lives in both camps!). Go check it out.
