New Tool

I’m not one to go out and buy the latest gadget. I believe I can make just as wonderful things with a rotary cutter, rectangular ruler, and home sewing machine, or a needle, thread, fabric scraps and junky paper, as I could with a long arm machine, pre-cut templates, specialty cutters, and colorful pins. However, my 44 year old, hyperopic eyes aren’t so good at threading needles anymore and the lovely lady at our local stitching shop, Fiddlesticks, suggested this little goody:

Needle Threader

It has got to be the best thing since sliced bread! It’s too big for quilting betweens, but it will thread just about anything into just about any other needle. And it doesn’t pull apart after two uses like those needle threaders with the thin wire loop. I love it, love it, love it. And how do I know I love it so much? I’ve been using it every day for the last several weeks on my 12×12 “Blue and White with a Touch of Black” challenge.

Delft Back

Our reveal day is on 1 March. In the mean time, this is the back before I faced it.

  1. THANKS for showing this – I had started to have a problem and I have gone through 4 or 5 of those other spindly threaders.

WOW! Lots of stitching there – looking forward to seeing it March 1st!!!

  2. OK, you won’t believe this but I have one of those on my little table next to me. It was in my embroidery supplies and I didn’t know what it was! Thanks to you, now I do!!

  3. I think I’m going to have to make a stop at Fiddlesticks, because threading needles & me don’t mix. I sat there the other day trying & after what seemed like 5 minutes, I realized I was trying to thread the wrong end! Talk about old eyes!

  4. I have been using the Clover needle threader ( the gizmo where you press the lever and it threads the needle – sometimes), but this looks so much more user friendly. Do you have a company name so I can ask my shop to carry them? I am really looking forward to the big reveal given the sneak peeks I’ve seen. Have a great weekend.

  5. I don’t have the packaging anymore, but a search online found a LoRan threader (possibly distributed through Dritz) that looks like it might be it. DMC has a 3-in-1 that has teh same kind of flat metal hooks instead of wire loops.

  6. Yeah, I think I need one of those too. I am getting so excited about the blue, white and black challenge. Everyone’s work looks so intriguing and I LOVE mine!

  7. I haven´t seen this kind of little helper before, but sounds a good investement. Have to watch out for one. My eyes aren´t the best anymore too. The back of your piece looks very promising. So much stitching

  8. I saw John Flynn using that in one of his videos, and was jealous! And, now you have one! I break the little foil ones all the time! Thanks!

  9. oooh. nifty.
will have to see if I get this over here. not that i have high hopes, but I’ll try.
being blind as a mole this is just the thing I need!

  10. That’s a pretty great tool .. I’ll have to search one out. I used to have no problems seeing up close but lately I’ve noticed that I’m taking off my glasses to see the needle now. Yikes, must be time to see whether I need bifocals – ugh!
